Mike Miller: Tupac Collection – This weekend only
Sep 10, 2026
Thirty years after Tupac Shakur’s death, House of Photography presents a temporary exhibition of photographs by Los Angeles photographer Mike Miller. The exhibition brings together a selection of Miller’s photographs of 2Pac, created during a series of shoots in the 1990s.
On September 7, 1996, Tupac Shakur was shot in Las Vegas. Six days later, on September 13, he died from his injuries. He was 25 years old.
In a short career, 2Pac became one of the most influential artists in hip-hop. His legacy extended beyond the music itself. Album covers, music videos and photographs became part of the public image of Tupac and continue to shape how he is remembered today.

Mike Miller and 2Pac
Los Angeles-based photographer Mike Miller has spent decades photographing music, fashion and the culture of the American West Coast. His archive includes artists such as Eazy-E, Ice Cube and 2Pac, alongside work in fashion and advertising.
Miller first met Tupac at a nightclub in Hollywood. Around a year later, Tupac asked him to photograph the cover for Thug Life: Volume 1.
The shoot took place in 1994 across several locations in Los Angeles, including a train yard in East Los Angeles. It became one of several occasions on which Miller photographed Tupac.
Miller has described Tupac as one of the more easy-going people he photographed, someone who was open to his ideas and willing to go along with what he suggested.
The photographs were created while Tupac was still in the middle of his career. Today, they are viewed with the knowledge of what followed. Images originally made within the context of music and popular culture have also become documents of a person and a period that left a lasting mark on hip-hop.
